Breads Bakery – New York, NY

I have to say, I tried a cinnamon roll before in San Francisco and it was one of the best I’ve ever had but I have to give a nod to Breads Bakery as well with their version. Their version is moist and flaky which I do enjoy. You can taste the sugar along with some notes of cinnamon which doesn’t take away from enjoying the taste. You’ll definitely want to lick your fingers after you eat this and might considering getting another but by that time you will already be too far away to turn back.

Little Cupcake Bakeshop – NY, NY

There is just something that is really good about this cupcake place. I would say this can arguably be my top place but I still want to reserve it for Molly’s Cupcakes for now but it is very debatable. Above you have the strawberry shortcake, vanilla frosted, cookie dough and red velvet. Each one of them is fresh and moist. It’s just something about biting into a cupcake and knowing it taste the way it’s supposed to be. You don’t taste that stale cupcake, you know that feeling when you’re looking forward to eating it and then your expectations aren’t met because it’s stale. Not here! They have so many different kinds and they also serve cake which is nice. When you’re walking and you see so many people with pink boxes, just know you’re heading in the right direction.

Burgermeister – Miami, Florida

So I’ve been to Miami a few times but this is a place that I have to give a nod to for sure. It’s relatively new, I think but don’t quote me on it. Anyway, I have to say this place is pretty good and has a really good chicken sandwich and I don’t say that generously. Now let me say this sandwich is messy but you can do it. Wait you have some coleslaw on your mouth. lol. However, the sandwich above the Buffalo Chick. It’s Panko Breaded Fried Chicken Breast Whipped in Buffalo Sauce, Coleslaw and Lettuce along with the Truffle and Parmigiana Fries. I usually don’t like Cole slaw but on this sandwich it was really good. I would say the hot on this sandwich was medium low, if that’s possible to say so it wasn’t hot at all. The chicken was fried just right and the crisp to it was good and I enjoyed it a lot, I can say. The truffle fries with the dip were also really good as well so that’s a must try if you’re into that. Now if you know south beach, there isn’t many places that serve good food so you have to try this place if you’re there. It’s sort of a hidden gem because it wasn’t crowded when I was there. Be safe.

Tartine Bakery – San Francisco, California

There’s something about eating this in Mission Dolores Park. It’s almost like something that you have to do since it’s one block away. This is called the morning bun that encompasses cinnamon, sugar, and orange zest. I can say that I really didn’t taste the orange zest so you’ll be okay. Anyway, this was a pretty good pastry. It’s nice and airy but also with the just amount of chew to it. When I started to eat it, I was like why didn’t I grab two of these. You can tell from the picture that it’s something special though and you won’t regret. Now I will say, you will have to wait in the longest line ever but it does go fast, usually within an hour. With that said, do bring some comfortable shoes because you’ll need it. Tartine does have other items which I tried but it wasn’t something that I recommend. Hope you enjoy it and oh, do know what you want before you get to the front because that’s why the line is so long. lol.

Pinho’s Bakery – Roselle, NJ

Jersey isn’t really known for its bakery compared to NY I would say but there are some that I like. I have to give Pinho’s a mention because I grew up going to this bakery every Sunday morning. The donut above the sourdough donut and yes it looks sugary. It’s not a sugary as you think though when you taste it. You can taste the freshness, I think you can anyway, when you take a bite into it. It’s very moist, soft interior and not a hard exterior. The icing on the outside complements the dough on the inside so it’s a must try when you go. It has a splash of cinnamon as well but you really can’t taste it though unless you eat really slow and take in every bite. In addition to this, they have what is called a rainbow pretzel donut. They literally only make one a day, which is unfortunate, granted they have other kinds of rainbow pretzel donuts, but this one is the best of them all. Trust me, it’s a rainbow sprinkled donut shaped liked a pretzel. I’ve been to many bakeries and I don’t know one yet that does a pretzel donut that is enormous. I don’t know if they make these in bulk but I have yet to ask. In any case, if you’re special enough to grab it, just take a bite and let me know if you enjoyed it as much as I did. They do have other items as well on their menu like bagels, sandwiches, cakes and some really good custard cups. So to recap, yes to the sourdough donut, rainbow pretzel donut, and/or custard cup. Also, bring cash.

Schmackary’s – New York, NY

This right here is my favorite cookie spot of all time. If you go, don’t be surprised if you see me there and no I’m not watching you. It’s just that good that I go back at random times. Now of course, I guess I can say I’m bias because it’s a place that’s grown on me going back overtime. However, the above cookie is the Cookies and Cream. It’s dark cocoa, white chocolate, oreo bits (yeah), finally topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting. It’s just something about it when you bite into it, it’s soft, chewy, with a little crunch and it’s made with some love for sure. They have so many different kinds of cookies and some are seasonal as well. My other favorite cookie is the funfetti and of course the original chocolate chip cookie. I wouldn’t suggest going late on a Friday or anytime during Saturday because it’s going to be packed and I do mean packed. If you’re not a fan of crowds, then I would suggest picking another time to go because even inside it’s quite small even with their new layout. I hope you like it just as much as I do.

The Bakeshop on Twentieth – Philadelphia, PA

I have to admit that this cookie is pretty good. I think it’s my second favorite chocolate chip cookie and it might be the first but I still have a joy for my top cookie place so that’s why it can’t garner that spot. Anyway, this is the first cookie I’ve tried that has layers of chocolate chips in it. Yes, I did say layers. Layers in a sense when you bite it, you can see the layers of chocolate chip in it. It’s chewy and moist and a tad bit of a crunch bring this cookie together. It’s not too sweet as well which is good but just right. This place is quite small and there might be a line when you go but it’s worth it. They have other pastries as well that I wasn’t able to try but I’ll definitely be back for sure. Enjoy!

Emily’s Love Pizza

Emily’s – West Village, NY, NY

There’s just something about taking a stroll back to memory lane by coming back here. I’ve haven’t been to Emily’s in a while, so in order to not rehearse something I’ve already discussed (their pizza and burger), let’s look at their cheese sticks. I must say these cheesy garlic sticks are really, really good and I’m not saying that because this is one of my favorite places because of their consistency but because it actually is and this photo tells it all. The garlic sticks are made with parsley pesto and a side of their spicy tomato sauce. I wasn’t able to try the tomato sauce because of my allergies but I can imagine it being good and a nice complement to the cheese. The bread isn’t hard but just right and whatever cheese they used on this was really good with the right amount of garlic that isn’t overpowering. When you pull just one of the sticks off of the other you can see the melted cheese just string out. This was just amazing. If you haven’t been so far, even with outdoor dining, you won’t be disappointed. Support your local business for sure. Until next time. Hopefully it won’t be a long wait.

Popeyes – Multiple Locations

I know, I know, you’re wondering why I’m going to talk about the chicken sandwich from Popeyes. I would agree with you but this is my very first time having the sandwich. I’m going to make this review short and sweet by saying this sandwich wasn’t worth the hype. Maybe it was the Popeyes I had it from but I didn’t taste any flavor, wasn’t crispy as talked so much about and overall, I found it to be a flat sandwich. The sandwich I tried was the spicy version and it was not spicy at all. I may give this sandwich another try at some point but overall no bueno. If anyone has some suggestions on specific locations, let me know because I know each location makes it a bit different.

Bia Mara – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Whew. If you’re like me, you’ve been trying to gather your psyche around the current situation while being home. Despite the up and down, we have to keep it moving and so I’ve decided to go deep in the archives and post some food items I haven’t discussed yet instead of recent ones. Thinking about Amsterdam and the idea of not traveling has been unfortunate but it will get better. Anyway, this place is known for their fish and chips. On this day, I didn’t have fish but decided to go with the classic panko chicken and seaweed salted chips (fries) with homemade garlic truffle sauce. I have to admit that sauce was pretty good and you can taste the truffle a little in it that was just right. This might be one of the best chips I’ve had as well. This place has definitely got it going on. No more needed on this post but I’ll see ya’ll soon. More post to come.
